Defending the truth with reason

Organizations and companies thrive whenever its member conduct their activities in an honest and righteous manner. When its members put the interests of the organization before their own the organization will continue to grow and prosper. Hence, companies need to maintain integrity and honesty within its ranks. But, when members of an organization cross the line and behave unjustly, doing shady deals and making decisions that benefit themselves at the expense of the whole organization, believers have to do something about it. Believers are God’s people of truth called to be salt and light to the world. Jesus saw the anomaly at the temple where much of the activities were commercial and driven by greed. The Jewish leaders were using the temple and its rituals to make money for themselves. They did not fulfill their duties to make the temple a place of prayer and worship. Jesus made a whip and drove out the people who were doing business there. Jesus risked alienating the Jewish authorities in order to turn the people back to the truth. When some members of organizations start to become self-seeking, its employees have the responsibility to flag the anomaly up to higher authorities so that the interests of the organization may be preserved.

Do we succumb to the fear of possible backlash if we surface the problem? Or do we hold our ground and speak the truth? In another incident where work was forbidden on Sabbath Day, despite the Jews’ opposition, Jesus healed the sick according to the Father’s will. Then, Jesus took pains to explain to the Jewish leaders why healing could be done on Sabbath Day. Jesus did not shy away from doing what is right despite the opposition of the Jewish leaders.

I would like to challenge you to take a stand for the truth with reason and wisdom; in a way that is wise and non-confrontation. Proverbs 25:11 says, “Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.” Let the Spirit of wisdom speak through you and bring an enduring prosperity to your organisation. Jesus said, “When the Spirit comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” (John 16:8).
